Langkawi

Selamat! from a tiny little island off the northwest coast of Malaysia...

Suz and Deb here... Malaysia is HOT. Let's just say I am sweating like I'm in a bikram yoga class... all day long. Hoping to build up some heat tolerance so that I'm not walking around like this the entire trip... but I did sign up for this, so I'll will do my best to try and find some shavasana in the tropics ;-)

We are having a lovely stay at the Bonton Resort in Langkawi. My sister takes me to nice places, the bungalows are beautifully furnished and set up to resemble Malaysian houses from the colonial British era. Bonton doubles as an animal rescue shelter so we are also surrounded by A LOT of kittens and other animals. It is quite peaceful and a bit romantic here, when not drenched in sweat ;-) Feels off the beaten path.... the tourists seem to be mostly Malaysian and how the Muslim women hike around in this climate with their burkah's is a mystery to me. We rode up a cable car for a nice view of the island and then treated ourselves to a fairly challenging midday jungle trek that led us to.... well, nowhere. At the top of the "hill" we found a sign that said 1,736 meters, a few lines of malaysian "bahasa" and U TURN. So we turned around and made it off the mountain just in time for an afternoon thunderstorm. Tomorrow we'll start the day off with "Yoga With Dorothy" - we are taking bets on Dorothy's ethnicity - and then head to the nicer five star beaches on the north side of the island.

I forgot my USB cord so Langkawi pictures will have to wait until we are back in Singapore. Namaste :-)

  1. an update: Dorothy is Malaysian, originally from KL and living here teaching yoga, pilates and cardio classes for 3 years. Yoga with Dorothy was at The Lighthouse restaurant (owned by 75 yr old German Johnny - who also participated in yoga this morning)on the beach and was really very nice. Shavasana....was.... lovely :-)

  2. South Boston and Malaysia have something in common today, i have been sweating because of the 95 degree heat and the 100% humidity. Namaste
